English's Enduring Value

Submitted by Ren, Aug 27, 2008 09:01

If you had it your way, the whole world would speak English. Be honest. You would. The reasons why children do not know English when they enter school go beyond the space available for me to comment here. Just know that not everyone was lucky enough to grab an ESL book or book on tape on their way here from a slum in Managua, Shanghai, or Kiev, so they could teach their children English. It is one thing to say that English will take these kids far, and another to deny them opportunities for the simple fact that they don't speak (or write) English well.
