I only wish my parents had done the same for me when I was a kid. I don't think I rode the subway alone until I was in my 20's - and that was in Toronto! To this day I am apprehensive about doing anything by myself...and especially when I have to figure out how to get somewhere on my own, even by car. I try to push myself to be more independent, but it's very hard. Your son will go places - literally. He is lucky to have such a forward thinking mom...because being a parent involves more than just protecting your kids.
