A Brilliant Pick

Submitted by Arthur Dieli, Aug 29, 2008 14:14

The pick of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is indeed interesting. Whether it's brilliant or not remains to be seen. Obama and Biden are two well informed, well spoken, experienced politicians. The national election is our major political event. McCain is also a well spoken experienced politician but he is a maverick in the Republican party. Governor Sarah Palin may help him firm up his support in his own party. It may attract the support of women but that may be a demeaning conclusion. I doubt that any of my daughters will vote for president based on gender. I think they're more objective and intelligent than that. I also think they're a microcosm of modern American womanhood. So a lot is going to ride on how Governor Sarah Palin acquits herself during the run-up to the election. McCain's choice is reminiscent of FDR's choice of Truman. On the negative side, the pick does nothing for some of my major concerns like Gay Rights, Control of assault weapons, Abortion Rights, Universal Health Care, and a Universal G.I. Bill. I'll be listening.
