While I agree that this is a good time to give Hughes and Kennedy some work, I don't think that you can make any judgments about their future based on a few September starts. Like you said, Hughes is only 22 years old. It would be silly to call him a "fraud" based on his performance this month. One only needs to look across town at Mike Pelfrey, who looked like a bust as recently as this spring but has developed into a solid #2 behind Santana. Likewise with IPK, who most analysts projected as a back of the rotation starter. The media hype machine was always throwing him in the conversation with Hughes and Chamberlain, but realistically you can't expect much more than league average performance from him.
