It is not that "the disclosure that Mrs. Palin's 17-year-old daughter, Bristol, is five months pregnant and will be marrying the father of the child has threatened to upstage the McCain campaign's message," but what has become a thoroughly seedy "profession" of journalism, to wit, the press, the media, that is threatening, indeed, attempting, to upstage the McCain campaign message. The press is no longer a watchdog organ in society, but an attack-dog institution, completely disregarding anything approaching propriety and a decent respect for privacy.

Governor Palin and Senator McCain should be proud of the forthright honesty and openness of Ms. Palin and her family. How many of those screaming for political and (a)moral blood were virgins when they got married? Men as well, or has that little detail escaped everyone's notice? All of this holier-than-thou hyperbole, from people who disdain chastity, is despicable in the extreme. Open up, 'fess up yourselves, or shut up. None of the barbs being cast at Ms. Palin or Mr. McCain come from those who most encourage chastity before marriage, because those people, for the most part, are also the first to "circle the wagons," to protect those who have erred. It is the liberal savages, of political or media employment, who launch the attacks.
