Every New Yorker should research the history of New York's main gun law: the Sullivan Act. In short it was proposed by a gangster in 1911 (State Sen. Sullivan) to protect gangsters, and has been used as a model for similar laws in other parts of the USA. Enemies of gun ownership are friends of criminals. We need to demand our rights back. New Yorkers have to navigate more hurdles to legally own a gun for self-defense than anybody else in the country. FYI, in most states in the US you don't need a license to buy a handgun. You just go to the gun store, pick out your gun, fill out a short ATF form, and pass an "instant background check" to make sure you are not a felon, then leave with your gun. There is no reason for New Yorkers to face so much difficulty in exercising the right to self-defense.
