New Opposition Rises to Change In Term Limits

Submitted by bhanisch@yahoo.com, Sep 8, 2008 18:12

I voted for Term Limits 2 times. The City Council members knew that they could serve for only 2 consecutive 4 year terms. They did not claim that 2 terms was insufficient. Instead they could not wait to run for the open seat that resulted from term limits. Now that they realize that they will be term limited on December 31, 2009, they want to negate the will of the citizens. This is outrageous. Elected officials serve the people. The people do not serve the elected officials. The president of the United States is term limited to 2 terms. The City council members say that 3 terms is optimum. In 4 years they will say 4 terms is optimum. I say that if 3 terms is optimum, then the law should be changed to 3 terms starting after a seat is open due to term limits. If my vote is ignored, then why should I continue to vote?
