State Recovers $269M In Medicaid Fraud, Waste

It would be interesting to compare waste and fraud for managed care/HMOs to Medicare. That may be a tougher figure to calculate because there are so many companies, but perhaps a good researcher could measure by number of patients or dollars spent. I am for a single payer system - the HMOs don't bring anything to the table - but even I would agree we need to go after abuse and fraud much more diligently. The fact we are able to uncover so much of it, ironically, only strengthens the argument that an honest Medicare system would be far cheaper than the current middleman system with insurance companies, even if it covered everyone. P.S. Kudos to the NY Sun! I hope you survive to bring more valuable stories like this.
