Troubles Behind Him, Federer Takes Fifth Open

"Federer isn't about to walk away from tennis because he doesn't have the aura of invincibility he once had. If we've learned anything from this U.S. Open, it's that greatness — true greatness — isn't diminished by a few strong blows." If you have to describe Roger Federer as a tennis player in two sentences, you could not do better than the above. Many commented that Roger needed to "redeem" himself with a win at the US Open, as if he owed them something. How does the word "redeem" fit into the context when you are talking about a great champion who has already broken most records out there? It didn't matter to the reckless writers who must be promoting their own agenda. Some in the media (including John McEnroe) alluded to Borg walking away after his last US Open, putting needless pressure on Roger. Is it envy that Roger is doing things he could not do. But John has also said great things about Roger. Wilander had said that Roger would not win another slam again. How could he not see the affects of mono this whole season? Did he think that Roger would be afflicted with it for the next few years? If not, how could his game go away just like that. To any one who saw Roger in the semis and finals, it is clear that if he is healthy he moves well, and if he moves well he will hit those forehand winners at will, and play great defense which will almost always guarantee wins for him. You are right. The sport needs Roger more than ever before.
