Thanks to Manuel, Minaya Likely Will Keep His Job

Omar Minaya is a good GM, who, like many executives, has made some bad moves, some that bordered on genius and some that were just so-so. Sometimes these moves involved the same player. Pulling Guillermo Mota off the scrap heap in '06 looked like a brilliant idea until the NLCS. Sticking with him last year was a disaster. The trades of Heath Bell, Matt Lindstrom and Henry Owens left them with a shallow relief corps for the past couple of years. On the other hand, getting Oliver Perez as a throw-in for Xavier Nady was brilliant at a time when the Mets were desperate enough to trade for Roberto Hernandez. He has a mixed record, but I think it's enough to keep his job. After all, Theo Epstein went from genius to idiot to genius in the course of a few seasons in Boston.
