Public Schools Turning Away Special-Ed Students

Myself and my daughter are also victims of this problem. She had been failing in Catholic School for several years. I had her evaluated by the Dept. Of Education and they classified her with mild learning disabilities I was given an IEP and a placement in a very good elementary school in my district P.S. 19. However it was not my zoned school and I was later told it was an unauthorized placement. The placement office told me that my only option was the violent and failing (on the Dept. of Education's failing schools list) junior high school in my area MS 142, I rejected the placement and filed for an Impartial Hearing. The Dept. told me I must attend a resolution meeting before the hearing it has been scheduled for mid September. In the mean time I had to put my daughter back in the school where she had been failing.
