I understand why the US dollar has strengthened based on a default rational which is if you are selling Euro what do you buy? However what happens when selling of the Euro stops. There will be no need to buy dollars. The dollar then will have to confront the growing trade deficit, Budget deficit and the much talked about massive $53 trillion debt. Thus the question of sustainability arises. Can the dollar sustain further rises? With America importing 9-10 million barrels of oil per day even at an oil price of $70 a barrel the dollar faces considerable head winds. Throw in a rising unemployment scenario and the dollar has additional problems. To top it all the Chinese in the China Daily mail of 12 Sept suggested it was time to reduce exposure to the dollar. Perhaps the dollar has done its dash for the moment.
