Parents Getting Into the Mix On Improving Public Schools

Submitted by Dave in Queens, Sep 13, 2008 09:15

Sometimes you have to cut your losses and say "there is no room at the inn". To overcrowd schools is a detriment to the current students and administration trying to effectively teach and manage a sound instructional environment. Overcrowding results in chaos with programming and scheduling of classes. Students are told "Sorry you have no lunch period but you can eat in the class if you teacher will let you", or "Sorry you have lunch period 1 but we can't fit you in for lunch during the middle of the day because the classes are filled." Overcrowding results in overloading the inability of the staff to manage the educational delivery to the student most needed. Those within the bell curve are able to get the attention they need. Those outliers, do not. NYC DOE & the UFT have enough knowledge to know when enough is enough. Let's see them put it into action.
