A viewer commented that the majority of black people in America live in poverty and hopelessness. Why is that? Vietnamese, Koreans, Chinese have come to America with nothing and worked to make a successful life for themselves. In many big cities there is a repeating cycle of teen pregnancy, disappearing dads, school dropouts as well as drug dealers as role models. Poor, unemployed because they are not capable of getting or keeping a decent job, they have a lot of time on their hands. Alcohol, drugs, promiscuity and crime help pass the time. The atmosphere causes the neighborhood to fall into disrepair and move toward being a slum, which encourages more criminals. The responsible citizens of these communities have to work together and with the city to stop the cycle at this generation. No government action alone can do it. People in the community are closest to the people in this cycle of despair and will be the ones who can effect the change. Get the kids interested in the world and its possibilities; get them to want to learn. Give them role models. It just might work.
