Silly Putty of the Law

Harvey is, as usual, right on target. There are, in addition, other negative consequences of taking such hubristic license. One such consequence is the erosion of the public willingness to cooperate with law enforcement investigations. Having seen Martha Stuart sent to jail for not telling the full truth to a Federal investigator and not even charged with the purported crime that was being investigated, a clear message was conveyed to me and, I suspect, others: when approached by the FBI or one of Attorney General Cuomo's investigators, keep perfectly quiet and call your attorney. These folks cannot be trusted. That is a sad commentary for those who wish to be not only law abiding but also helpful to law enforcement.
