I was shocked and saddened to hear of Harry Black's arrest and what has happened to him personally and professionally. I knew him from high school and our fathers were colleagues. My father, William L. Schiffman, MD was a close friend and associate of Harry's father, Asher Black, MD an esteemed and highly respected cardiologist in Syracuse, NY. There is a phrase in the Hippocratic Oath that says "first do no harm." And clearly that oath was not taken seriously. How does someone so bright, from such an accomplished family, with a father and brother who are physicians, go so wrong and become so destructive in his life and the lives of others? I don't know if there is a simple answer. I didn't know Harry well, but I recall he was a very likeable and charming fellow. His father was a superb and compassionate physician, just like my Dad.I recall both his parents - his mother had a joyful nature and and seemed a loving wife and mother. Both parents appeared to have a good relationship with their children and were proud of them. My parents are now both deceased, and they would be very upset to hear of this. I doubt that Harry would remember me as I think we last saw one another over 40 years ago, but I do wish that he will find a way within his spirit, to comes to terms with what has happened and to find some peace and comfort with time. If they end up in prison, I hope they find a way to transform themselves and use their energies for the well being of others and through that perhaps to find some comfort in their lives. .Such a tragic loss of talent and a sad day for Harry's family and for the whole community.
