Critics who argue that only a Bible should be used for swearing-ins are missing the entire point of swearing on a Bible: to ensure that the person is more likely to keep his oath. A person who believes the Bible is sacred is less likely to violate his oath.
If a Moslem is swearing to "protect and defend the United States of America and its Constitution from all threats domestic and foreign" then I would absolutely INSIST he swear on the Koran, to best ensure that he keeps his oath to do so!
