As this is not a partisan issue, It is most important for politicians from all parties at any time to attend and to speak at rallies of this type, which speak to existential issues of the Jewish Community. Politicians represent constituencies, often outside the Jewsish Community, groups that the Jewish Community desperately needs in these critical times. To reject a popular political figure under pressure from partisan groups, as was done by the Conference of Jewish Presidents, will discourage politicians from giving public support to Jewish causes. Do Jews not have enough enemies that we need to create more? Do Jews have so many allies that you can alienate those who would support us while embracing those who disrespect your efforts? Hillary Clinton refuses to speak at the Jewish rally, Sarah Palin agrees, without conditions. The Conference publicly humiliates Palin by its actions. This egregious action can only turn millions who have stoutly supported the Jewish Community into those indifferent to it. It has let Clinton and the Democrats turn a bi-partisan effort into a crass political event.
