Met Bullpen Actually May Be Worse Than It Appears

Tim -- did I miss your reference to where blame for this debacle should fall? I agree that Manuel, like Randolph, has few options. Where is Omar Minaya's name? He is reportedly about to get four more years at the helm and, by and large, the team is better now than when he came. But he apparently thought the pen was mightier this year than last. He was not wrong -- he was absolutely wrong. What is the point of getting Santana if the wins fall by the wayside? I don't know if Minaya must go, but he must be noted as the root cause of this sad situation. As a fan, I feel pulled in two -- I watch in horror each night, but each surprising win makes me feel good. But for what? Eventual playoff failure is certain, and probably in a short time. How miserable. The only positive -- and it cannot be minimized -- is seeing the Mets make the postseason while Jeter gets his long-overdue opportunity to be a network TV guest commentator.
