JAY, to characterize any church as either leftist or to the right (you know fully well) is an oversimplification. To say that the Epsicopal Church belongs to the Democratic left or the, RC, AG/Non-demoninational or So. Baptist churches belong to the Republican right is inaccurate. The RC Church is socially 'to the left - if not outrightly socialist. JPII denounced the invasion in Iraq and I am sure would support diplomatic ties with Iran. But, like Ronald Reagan has said: "Vote with your feet." So perhaps and without haste, enter into a RC Church RCIA program and intiate yourself into Rome immediately-like John Cardinal Newman, swim the Tiber. (By, the way, in the RC church, you get to vote - as a Cardinal) ... just look over your shoulder towards Rome and abide by the rules and the formulae. Maybe that would be more comfortable for you. But then, there wouldn't be any opportuntiy for op-ed columns - so hold the course.
