Weiner Praises New York Sun on House Floor

I hope you can forgive me for abstaining from Congressman Weiner's praise. I remember some particularly irresponsible editorials on climate change by Mr. Steyn. Recently a member a meterology forcasting team within our armed forces said that one only need to look at sattelite images of polar ice masses or to read an analysis of ocean surface temperatures to see the reality of climate change. We witness a crisis in our financial system, and a promise of a coming crisis in healthcare delivery, education and energy. These challenges require planning, rewarding initiative and government encouragement of sound development. What the Sun seemed to recommend in these contexts were pious sayings about the free market (read accountable for profit only with no regard for public need). So today, the Treasury recommends underwriting mortgage speculation. The electrical grid that would be essential for flexible alternative power generation is declining. The expense of our dependence on petroleum has begun to preclude our development of alternatives. I would submit that the conservativism that will prevail is based on investment and government enforcement of a fair system that allows politicians and markets to work for society. The Sun's apparent faith in the powerful to do the best for us if they are left to do as they please is irrelevant.
