Bills and Titans Signal Power Shift in the NFC

I must admit I'm a little disappointed at Mr. Barra this morning. I was expecting a brilliant statistical analysis, like he did two weeks ago, of the obvious greatness that is Kurt Warner. After all, he completed a high percentage of his passes (30 for 47) yesterday, for substantial yardage (472 yards) which, of course, leads to a high yards per attempt, which Mr. Barra is always telling us is more important than the unemployment rate. No, what the Jet-Cardinal game really tells us is how inept Warner really is (just like I wrote two weeks ago in response to Mr. Barra) and, more importantly, Mr. Barra notwithstanding, the meaninglessness of football statistics. What we saw yesterday is classic Warner. He plays the game too slowly, holds the ball too long, doesn't secure the ball in the pocket, and fumbles almost every time he's hit. He is a turnover machine. As usual, he completed the vast majority of his passes for the vast majority of his yards after the game was safely lost (34-0 at halftime) Warner is one of the worst quarterbacks in football, the numbers notwithstanding. Just watch him play. Yesterday's game was a perfect illlustration of why you can't evaluate football with statistics. Evaluate football with your eyes, not with numbers.
