Changes Sought in Plans For South Street Seaport

Submitted by Nigeria, Sep 30, 2008 11:13

This is an atrocious eye-sore that will destroy what little history our country actually still has. In an obvious conflict of interest the Chairman of the South Street Seaport Museum's Board is Frank Sciame of Sciame construction. The museum is going along with GGP's development because Sciame receives all the construction bids in the area and this is no coincidence. In an even more blatant showing of the Museum's lack of sticking to its mission of preserving the historic district's waterfront the Chairman hired a 28 year old with no experience just out of law school as the Director of the museum. The director Mary Pelzer does not hold an Art history or History degree at all. She is a puppet for Sciame so he can have the development go through without any fight from the one non-profit in the area that is supposedly there to Protect our history. This is a travesty and another case of the Richer needing to get richer at the expense of all good taste and the class of our city's historic skyline.
