You might have mentioned that Washington had the spy, John André, executed during the Revolution, but this example and the others in the editorial all deal with cases of domestic treachery, whereas Julian Assange is an Australian operating outside the reach of U.S. law and enforcement. With a soldier son currently in the war, I'd be happy to see Bradley Manning (the soldier who gave the various documents to WikiLeaks) tried and punished for what he has done (as surely he must be), but the only 'remedy' for Assange would be extra-legal, and that's hardly on the Obama agenda. As for the president's indifference to such matters, that's becoming legendary, and it's background music to Tuesday's funeral for the Democratic Paerty.
