Up and Down the Ballot, Little Makes Any Sense

comments about Alan Trammell. I agree that he's at least as viable, if not more viable, a candidate than Jim Rice but comparing him to Derek Jeter? I don't mean to sound like a myopic Yankee fan but really? Trammell isn't anywhere close to the hitter that Jeter's been, accrued fewer points on the various HOF predictor standards (and Jeter's still playing obviously) and even if he was a better fielder wasn't SO much better that it makes for a fair comparison. As for Tejada, I don't think you could make a very strong case for his enshrinement unless you were transfixed by RBI. Since we're talking about baseball writers I may be foolish for saying that but arguing that Trammell is as good as Tejada is the same as saying that Luis Gonzalez and Jim Rice are analogues. Neither one's a HOFer.

As for McGwire if you're voting against him because of steroids at least do what Paul Ladewski did and don't vote for anyone who played in the so-called steroid era, Ripken and Gwynn included. Not anything I agree with but basing a HOF vote on someone's congressional testimony is asinine.
