Alexander Hamilton To Be Celebrated on His 250th Birthday

Submitted by Jon Lenglain, Jan 11, 2007 01:37

I'll be sure to attend Hammy's b-day. Hamilton was truly an extraordinary character by any scale of comparison. It could help his historical fame if admirers did not focus their rapture on his duties as secretary of the Treasury, but allowed more print-space to the full extent of his talents and achievements. Hamilton's efforts to bring about the constitutional convention, his production of the Federalist papers (both in tandem with Madison,) and his heroic championship of the constitution at the New York Ratifying convention are equally worthy of our admiration and were crucial in making the constitution happen. This nation builder did not merely have a rare "financial mind", but a rare mind that could guide the finances of an entire nation, give it a political constitution, write political treatises, birth and lead a political party, devise sweeping military stratagems, and charm a damsel or two. Plus, he was possibly the greatest lawyer of the early republic. This birthday celebration should become the kernel of a louder Hamilton lobby. One that could make New York synonymous with his name.
