I do not believe that General David Petraeus should be vilified for his letter re: Judith Miller. She had been an embedded reporter for some time in his area of command in Iraq and DID hold to the rules set forth as to what she could and could not report. The only people unhappy with her reportage were those at the NYTimes and other Liberal Democrats who only wanted their slant portrayed - that which would undermine the war effort and President Bush. As Captain Petraeus at the time, he did a beyond exemplary job in all aspects, both in wiping out the insurgents and then setting up a local government in that area that is still a model in Iraq. President Bush made an excellent choice in his appointment!.
Remember, Judith Miller was not being investigated for the leak of information, but rather for being aware of it and NOT printing it and her refusal of time-practiced protection in divulging sources (to which I personally do not concur).
