in response to reader comment: Was Patraius moonlighting for the neocons?

Please take the take to be informed of both current politics and military positions/careers before making a comment about someone who is well-respected within the military community. Gen Petraeus was assigned to Ft. Campbell shortly before and most definitely after Gen Shinseki retired. Gen Petraues was also a few ranks (stars) away from that position at the time. "In the Company of Soldiers" is a good book that talks a lot about the man himself. Recommend reading it and his biography before criticizing. Military men carry out orders....it is the politicians who continue to drag them into their battles. Everyone has an opinion and the military is no different as they are a reflection of society but the difference is they conduct their mission regardless of the political badgering that occurs daily even when they are waiting on resources while symbolic votes occur yet a budget can not be voted on during the all important 100 hours or the 90 days preceeding this Congress. The fact is the U.S. military as become the pawn of politicians and now we have 3000 less brave men and women for it. We will continue to lose more if fail to realize timing is essential in warfare. Why did it take months to announce a new strategy? The enemy already knows our plan and will run to yet another town before we arrive.
