Court To Hear Challenge To Costly Calls From Prison

Submitted by Tomasina Raphael, Jan 14, 2007 16:32

No one with power or money really cares about this situation. America has an economy based on capitalism, and no organization shows more capitalistic iniative than MCI. Those who have a loved one incarcerated are looked at as lawbreakers themselves by association, and as low class good for nothings for having a family member or loved one a felon. the collect calling scam is collateral punishment for families and loved ones. lack of communication makes everyone's life difficult. MCI operators are abrasive, rude, and nasty. the calls are often transferred out of the country to places where English is not a first language, and when information is being asked for, one is on hold for hours and gets nowhere.the general public is unaware of the financial hardships; but when made aware, don't care, because prisoners got themselves into that situation, don't you know? Now the state of Ohio no longer allows food and clothing boxes, and has a sole vendor for same which charges a great deal more for food, clothing and sundries than outside stores. families and loved ones are punished daily, and it will go on forever.
