I don't think this statement was religiously motivated - it was political ! This example makes clear that the Saudi government doesn't like us and our values. Which is fine - they are entitled to their opinion. But I think it is dangerous selling them top of the range fighter aircraft that potentially may be used against us (the west) or used for causes that we don't agree with. Currently the sale of Eurofighter aircraft is a much debated issue in the UK.
We should stop this hypocrisy and decide who we consider an ally and sell weapons to. We sold F14 Tomcat fighters (you know the ones from Top Gun) to Iran and now Iran is considered the "enemy". The same might happen to Saudi Arabia in the (near?) future.
