Why is it that the only "power" that bold and transgressive anti-war advocates seem capable of "speaking truth to" is the U.S.? When is the last time any of them flew to Beijing to speak truth to the power there about Tibet? There have been no reports of peace activists visiting Pyongyang to lecture the depraved megalomaniac in power about his prison-like country full of what functionally are his slaves. Why is the only "truth speaking" interest of westerners while in Cuba hissing at U.S. power and Guantanamo Bay, while studiously avoiding the opportunity to speak the truth to Cuban power about the outrageously horrendous Cuban prisons full of political dissenters? When was the last time Mother Sheehan or the modern Puritan scold, Barbara Boxer, castigated powers in the Islamic world for keeping women uneducated and in the shadows?

The answer of course is that the only power that is ever spoken truth to in the safety and security craved by the craven is American power when it is used to clean up the messes of tyrants and terrorists, who otherwise terrify into silence the self-regarding loudmouths around us.
