New GM Reese Backs Coughlin, Says He Wants More Out of Manning

Submitted by Maury, Jan 17, 2007 09:25

Maybe young Manning has the talent to be a first-class quarterback, maybe not. Being a first-class player demands support – ‘team' support. And, this collection of individual players is not a ‘team.'

The job of the coach is to bring a group of players together and make the sum more than the total of the individuals. This, coach Coughlin, has not done: in fact he has widened the gap between individual players and ‘team.' The guy in the hot-spot is the quarterback, the leader of the offensive team, and by virtue of that, the entire team. Manning will succeed only as the ‘team' succeeds. That ain't gonna happen as long as the ‘team' does not exist, and the ‘team' will not exist as long as Coughlin in the coach. Unless Coughlin metamorphoses into Little Red Ridinghood.'
