The Greatest Player Who Isn't in the Hall of Fame
in response to reader comment: Is he worthy?

dear mike,

hits are not the only thing. on base percentage, stolen bases, your glove, rbi's, run production. for a 2nd baseman, joe morgan is a hall of famer hands down. now if he played outfield it would be a different story. jim rice should be in the hall along with pete rose (politics aside), vada pinson, don sutton, goose gossage, steve garvey (for fielding), and if he isnt in he should be- Ron Santo. Tommy John, Frank Tanana (his arm fell off and he still stuck around 10 more years), Jim Kaat, and a few others. The Hall like anything else is political. What criteria should we just a person worthy to enter the hall? of all the 2nd basemen that played during Morgans time, who was better? No one is the answer. Grich was the next best. Sandberg was the best during his time and he is in the hall hands down. Hard to find a decent hitting second baseman, who can field. Davey Lopes was pretty good too. Maz is in the hall and deservedly so. Baseball is perhaps the greatest sport in american history. hope the players and owners dont ruin it like they have in the past (71, 93 thru 95.) If they had a FANS HALL OF FAME there would be millions upon millions of members. The fans make it all possible. Sincerely, Max
