Unfortunately, since the Shah was overthrown, not one US president did squat about the long term issue of that event. Now George Bush has tried, but has not been at all ruthless with the villians in the way of stability in Iraq. It is a shame that he has allowed the military to get bogged down over these three years and did not really kick ass against the militias and organized resistance that appeared after Hussein was ousted.
For too long the US has tried to use its military humanely, and this is definately a contradiction with dire consequences. Now who knows if it is too late for a toughened stance?
