Amid Immigration, Home Depot Adds Spanish

Submitted by Sacha Pitoeff, Jan 23, 2007 12:43

In the article on Home Depot adding Spanish language signs, this professor at NYU, Marcelo Suárez- Orozco, is quoted as saying that Hispanics will add $1 trillion to the nation's economy by the end of the decade.

Assuming 50 million Hispanics in 2010 (the figure given is 37.5 million today), then that means a contribution of $200,000 per person. Since the U.S. per capita income is $40,000, it just seems like a preposterous figure that this professor is floating.

Preposterous as is almost every argument for illegal immigration I have heard. These people just cannot think logically and reasonably and admitting them to this country in such numbers and without demanding assimilation is going to ruin this country.
