On Guns, Bloomberg Issues Threat to Capitol Hill Lawmakers

Submitted by Sam Mosin, Jan 24, 2007 12:49

You can get a pretty good idea of what a politician relly thinks about freedom and liberty by looking at where he/she stands on gun control. While anti-freedom moutpieces try to dance around the issue by saying they want to protect hunters' rights or whatever, they conveniently overlook the fact that every law they promote makes it more difficult for law-abiding citizens to exercise their freedom; most of their proposals have no impact on criminals. The fact is that anything harmful that can be done with a firearm is already illegal; society would be much safer if criminals were properly punished and monitored so that they don't become repeat offenders. It wouldn't hurt if more law-abiding citizens were allowed and even encouraged to carry concealed weapons for their own protection and for the protection of others around them - especially in NYC, where citizens are so frequently trapped on trains, subways and buses where they can't get away from any potential predators or terrorists who might be among their fellow passengers. A couple of armed passengers on those airplanes on 9/11 could have changed history as well. If NYC and other anti-freedom cities and counties in the Empire State would abandon their unconstitutional second amendment restrictions, Mayor Bloomberg wouldn't have to worry about his New Yorkers buying handguns illegally. Law abiding citizens could make their own choices about self-defense. Apologies could be made to Bernie Goetz. And perhaps the horror Carolyn McCarthy experienced won't be repeated when New Yorkers are no longer watching helplessly as criminals attack.
