in response to reader comment: Why Conservatives should support Rudy

Submitted by Barbara, Jan 25, 2007 12:43

I live in New York City and never voted for Rudy. I quickly became disillusioned with him as a campaign volunteer in 1992. I learned that he was seeking the endorsement of the now-defunct Liberal Party; I left and never looked back. In 1993, I voted for the Conservative candidates: Ronald Lauder and George Marlin.

He, like Bloomberg, is an authoritarian. Rudy said once that "Freedom is about authority. Freedom is about the willingness of every single human being to cede to lawful authority a great deal of discretion about what you do and how you do it." That should scare everyone.

Rudy kowtowed to the unions, and refused to comply with Federal law and turn in identified illegal aliens. Worse, he endorsed Bill Clinton over Bob Dole in 1996. He lacks a consistent philosophy and core prinicples; he is simply a finger-in-the-wind politician.

And I'm tired of hearing that because New Yorkers are democrats/liberals that a Republican candidate has to be a moderate to win. Let these wishy-washy Repbulicans run as Democrats then; don't despoil the Republican philosophy.
