The reason Old Masters, period furnishings, porcelain, etc. has the energy and attraction that they do is that when it was created it was as much Contemporary art as whatever is up on a Chelsea gallery's walls and that is barely dry today...never mind a work by Warhol that is quickly becoming a vintage item. The sales at Sotheby's and Christie's went to well because there were so many quality items on offer.
