My sympathies go to the Pakistani immigrant and his family. It is sad that it is only with incidents like this that people break out of the denial of new racism against new minorities to this country outside the norms of racism against other more traditional groups. As a Brooklyn born indian american I stopped counting years ago after the 60th verbal or physical racial incident that I had gone through. When police get to the scene they just accuse the attackers of being obnoxious kids not granting the same weight to incidents against pakistanis and other asians in this country as they would to other more established groups. This is not to say that incidents don't happen to other groups but mention racism by the usual groups and you will get hit with all the political spin racism charges. Sad. I just know I will teach my kids about racism and warn them not ot be upset or saddened by the usual blackie and other insults they encounter in school and also not to turn into a racist back one day. Slowly there will be change after the first large scale employment lawsuits by asians and first asian judges and elected officials take office. But I am sure good people of all races will be working hard to protect all oppressed minorities until that time comes. The last thing to do is to make fear of racism lead to analysis paralysis and to keep you from living your life as happily as you normally would.
