Kitchen Dish

Valentine's Day is referred to by many people in the restaurant business as "Amateur Night," as people who are not accustomed to eating in restaurants with table service feel obligated to do so on this Hallmark holiday. While many restaurants offer the paired-up throngs a set, prix-fixe menu, here are some options for diners looking for something a little bit different.

Tre (173 Ludlow St., between Houston and Stanton streets, 212-353-3353) is offering a free, one-hour, all-you-can-drink Champagne pour for any couple dining there that evening.

BarFry (50 Carmine St. at Bedford Street, 212-929-5050) is giving dining couples goodie bags to take home with them in hopes of inspiring romance. Items in the bag include chocolate-covered strawberries, white chocolate sauce in tiny squeeze bottles, and "red hot" whipped cream, flavored with cinnamon and chili.

The Sunburnt Cow (137 Avenue C, between 8th and 9th streets, 212-529-0005) is throwing an anti-Valentine's Day singles party featuring all-you-can-drink beer and wine —in addition to holiday drink specials — for $25. Enjoy a meal there, including appetizer, main course, and dessert for $16.

Borough Food & Drink (12 E. 22nd St., between Broadway and Park Avenue South , 212-260-0103) has also declared February 14 to be singles night, and guests who buy a drink for a stranger will get a free "courage shot."

Silverleaf Tavern (43 E. 38th St. at Park Avenue, 212-972-2550) is offering special items for singles, including angry lobster, unrequited ribs, and lonely lox.

For those who are single but not angry about it, seating at communal tables is available at Porcao (360 Park Ave. S. at 26th Street, 212-252-7080), Macelleria (48 Gansevoort St. at Greenwich Street, 212-741-2555), and

Kellari's Parea Greek Bistro (36 E. 20th St., between Park Avenue South and Broadway, 212-777-8448).
