Kitchen Dish: Ammos Spawns a New Market, and More
ALL IN ONE The owners of Ammos will be opening a new restaurant, bar, and gourmet market at the Helena this fall. Hudson Café Market (601 W. 57th St. at Eleventh Avenue) will occupy 4,300 square feet of the luxury rental building on ground level, and another 2,300 square feet downstairs. Ammos chef David Ogren will be in charge of the "contemporary American comfort food" that will be served there.
SIDELONG GLANCE Restaurateur Michael Sinensky of Village Pourhouse, Proof Bar & Lounge, Hudson Terrace, and the Big Easy has opened SideBar (120 E. 15th St. at Irving Place, 212-677-2900). Chef Jason Bunin is cooking up "a contemporary American menu of light fare and unique snacks," and according to the press materials, did work as a sous chef at Patria.
A PUGLIAN AFFAIR Restaurateur Jimmy Carbone has opened a 30-seat café and wine bar at SoHo's HERE Arts Center. Called 1 Dominick (145 Sixth Ave., between Spring and Broome streets, entrance on Dominick Street, 212-647-0202), the restaurant draws its influence from the Italian region of Puglia, although there are plenty of innovations — such as the nontraditional fried baloney panini.
BROTHERLY RUB Another Brother Jimmy's BBQ is slated to open this Friday, in Murray Hill (181 Lexington Ave. at 31st Street, 212-779-7427), serving pulled pork and barbecue chicken wings, to be sure, but also fried green tomatoes, hush puppies, fried pickles, and other Southern delicacies, as well as Buffalo wings and quesadillas. A décor highlight will be 40 high-definition, flat-screen televisions.
OUTDOOR INDIAN Tabla (11 Madison Ave. at 25th Street, 212-889-0667) now has an outdoor takeout stand in front of the restaurant from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Offerings include a chicken tikka "Frankie" (the Bombay version of a wrap), a salad of green apples, green mango, and puffed rice, and a frozen chocolate kulfi pop.
LUNCHTIME GOAT Cabrito (50 Carmine St., between Bedford and Bleecker streets, 212-929-5050) is open for lunch, Monday through Friday, from noon to 4 p.m.
