Final Approval of $20 Billion Arms Sale To Saudi Arabia Is Delayed

The final approval for a $20 billion American arms sale to Saudi Arabia was pushed back another month and will not likely commence until February. On December 5, congressional leaders requested that the official notification period for the arms sale — which will include advanced guidance systems for missiles — be delayed for another month due to the holiday recess. More than 250 members of the House last month asked the White House to provide guarantees that the guidance systems for the Saudi missiles would not enable its military to strike American targets or the targets of American allies.
