Israel-Hezbollah Prisoner Swap Set for Wednesday

By Associated Press | July 13, 2008

JERUSALEM — Israel's government says a planned prisoner swap with Hezbollah will take place on Wednesday.

The Israeli prison service says it will return five imprisoned Lebanese fighters in exchange for two Israeli soldiers captured by Hezbollah two years ago. The Israeli soldiers are believed to be dead.

The Israeli government approved the release last month. But it took several weeks to work out final arrangements.

Under the deal, Israel will free a Lebanese man who has spent three decades in prison for killing three Israelis in a cross-border attack, Samir Kantar. His victims included a father and his young daughter.
