Pavarotti's Hospital Stay To Be Extended
MODENA, Italy — Luciano Pavarotti's hospitalization will be extended for a few more days so doctors can conduct further tests related to his pancreatic cancer, Modena Polyclinic said yesterday. The 71-year-old tenor was admitted to the hospital on August 8 because of a high fever.
The hospital statement said that even though the fever is gone, Mr. Pavarotti's stay was extended for "the opportunity to conduct further tests related to" the cancer. The opera star had surgery for the cancer in July 2006 in a New York hospital.
Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest forms of the disease, though doctors said the surgery offered improved the singer's hopes for survival.
