16 Gang Members Arrested in the Bronx
A joint task force of law enforcement officials arrested 16 members of a Jamaican gang yesterday in the Bronx, police officials said.
The gang, known as the Lions, had been dealing crack and marijuana in the Eastchester section of the Bronx since 2000, the head of the Bronx homicide division, Lieutenant William O'Toole, said.
The arrests followed a roughly two-year probe into the gang, Lt. O'Toole said. The suspects are being charged for drug violations, but Lt. O'Toole said he believes the arrests will lead to convictions in several unsolved murders.
The arrests included the gang's kingpin, Bobby Sanders, and two of his sons, Lt. O'Toole said.
