Bloomberg To Speak on Climate at Mayors Conference

Mayor Bloomberg is taking the city's environmental initiatives on the road Friday, delivering the keynote speech to more than 100 mayors at a national climate protection summit in Seattle and testifying before the House Select Committee for Energy Independence and Global Warming.

President Clinton was scheduled to speak yesterday at the summit, organized by the United States Conference of Mayors and hosted by the mayor of Seattle, Greg Nickels. Vice President Gore addressed participants via satellite.

"These mayors are going to be looking to hear from Mayor Bloomberg about what his experience has been greening New York," a spokesman for Mr. Nickels, Martin McOmber, said. "This whole conference is about sharing best practices."

Mr. Bloomberg said in a statement that he is looking forward to sharing ideas with his colleagues and bringing about real change.

Mr. Clinton unveiled an initiative yesterday to make energy efficient products more affordable and accessible to city governments and consumers. The Clinton Climate Initiative is partnering with Wal-Mart, the conference of mayors, and other businesses to sell the products to the 1,100 cities that are members of the conference.

Mr. Bloomberg is scheduled to visit the Microsoft Corporation campus outside Seattle before his speech.
