The New York City Housing Authority is poised to receive tens of millions in additional federal financing. Senator Schumer and Rep. Nydia Velazquez pledged the estimated $100 million a year to fund 21 public housing complexes that had previously been omitted in allocations by the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development. The legislation needs the approval of Congress. The Housing Authority has recently been running a large deficit, the officials said, and the added funds would help to ensure that rents stay affordable and that units are properly maintained.
