City Now Offering Dog Licenses Online
New York City dog owners can now go online to license their pets, Mayor Bloomberg announced yesterday.
Under the new process, pet owners can expect to wait between 10 and 14 days to obtain a license. Mr. Bloomberg urged more New Yorkers to license their dogs, saying it can help owners find their pets if they become lost and makes it easier for health officials to send reminders about vaccinations and other health procedures. Currently, the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, which distributes the licenses, estimates only 20% of the 500,000 dogs in the city are licensed.
A first-time dog license costs $11.50, and a renewal costs $8.50, unless the dog has not been spayed or neutered, in which case a renewal costs $11.50.
