City Takes Safety Steps After Track Deaths

The agency that runs the city's subway system has put in place new track safety measures following the deaths of two workers.
New York City Transit yesterday sharpened its focus on safety after the workers were hit and killed by trains inside tunnels in separate incidents last month. In both cases, investigators suspect the workers didn't hear approaching trains.
Supervisors have been given radios to improve communication with train controllers, and maintenance workers have been retrained on track safety.
