Legislation that would cap the amount of money that those who do business with the city can donate to political candidates will be introduced to the City Council today.
A final draft of the bill was not yet finished late yesterday, but the legislation is expected to include a series of tiered donation caps impacting lobbyists, property owners with land-use actions before the city, and others.
A draft version of the bill stipulates that donors with business before the city only would be allowed to donate $400 to candidates for citywide office, $320 to borough president candidates, and $250 for city council candidates, according to a source familiar with the negotiations.
